Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has been released from care, local government spokespeople confirmed on Wednesday evening. The athlete was involved in a car accident outside Lagos on December 29th, a horrific crash that claimed the lives of two of his close associates.
The sports star had remained in the hospital while healing from his light wounds, his management team stated earlier on Monday. The Lagos state commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed in an update online that Joshua was declared medically stable to continue his recovery at home.
“Anthony and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to offer their condolences to his two deceased friends as they were being readied to be sent home,” the official remarked.
The two men who died were named as Latif Ayodele, a personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, a performance coach. It was also noted that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and deeply emotional over the tragic loss of his two trusted companions.”
The news of his discharge arrives after the boxing community shared condolences for the fighter in the following the devastating accident.
